Fear as Girls Raped in Plateau State

The commissioner of Plateau state for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Sarah Yusuf, is campaigning against the increasing rate of rape offence against minors and is calling on all parents to stop concealing the truth as rape is a crime under our law.

According to the Commissioner, rape cases in plateau state are predominantly caused by the increase in drunkenness, rituals and other factors. She is also not happy with the parents or relatives of the victims as a result of the fear of stigmatization and shame.

She stated that in recent months, the ministry received reports of over 10 cases involving girls between the ages of five and 15 with the suspected rapists being between the ages of 30 and 70.
